Sometimes, some projects pop up out of no-where. Last August, and while I was working on some long haul projects, a interesting offer popped up on my Facebook feed. Sheila toy Stromberg was offering a test for a very pretty crochet collar. Even though I am not a big fan of collars, I really liked this one. This, coupled with the fact that the project wouldn’t take more than 1 hour to make, was enough to convince me. I was in.
I was so in, that after completing the first one, I immediately started a second one!
The Ginsburg Collar is a lacy crochet collar made in honor of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. As told by the designer:
She has spent her life furthering women’s rights and protecting women’s interests in the US. She is truly supreme. RBG rocks elaborate lace and beaded collars, subtly making room for herself (and of course, the rest of us girls) in a Spartan, male-dominated field. I am in love with her! We owe her so much.
Inspiring! The design itself is only 5 rows, and very quick to make, especially in fingering. After working on the first collar, my mind flooded with ideas, so I set out to make a second one with lace/thread yarn and beads! I also increased the overall circumference by working double the amount of pattern repeats. So pretty.
But there is an issue. I don’t know how to wear them! One idea is to sew them on a blouse or shirt, another to wear them like a type of fabric necklace. I am still undecided. And I haven’t had a chance to try any of the ideas so far. Do you wear collars? Do you have any recommendations? 🙂
